Photography is the documentation of life, once that shutter has clicked, the moment has passed and history is made. Some may be familiar with project 365, a simple concept, take a photograph everyday for 365 days. This blog is an extension of the project; the goal is to keep photographing every day, who knows how long? It is an excellent archive to look back on, see how things change. Change can be subtle, such as different coloured flowers being planted each year to a changing landscape with buildings being demolished and new ones built. This blog archives life’s diversity and my encounters.

2014 06 23 – A few people enjoy today’s wonderful summer weather while reading a book at Flora MacDonald Confederation Basin. On the second day of summer today’s temperature was around 24°C and 27 with humidity.

2014 06 24 – Water droplets splash into a puddle as it continues to rain in Bancroft, Ontario. A total of 29.8 mm of rain fell according to the weather networks historical records and over 100 mm for the month of June to date.

2014 06 25 – For the next little while I will have the luxury of sleeping in an RV instead of a tent. This 1977 Dodge Sportsman RV is owned by Mike and Sheila of the Bancroft Tent and Trailer Camp.

2014 06 27 – A girl smiles as a ball spins on her fingers during the Barry’s Bay International Food Festival at the Barry’s Bay Railway Station Park. People enjoyed an array of vendors and live entertainment.

2014 06 16 – Cleaning dishes in a bowl to prevent scratching the sink at the Bancroft Tent and Trailer Camp. Activities such as these make me appreciate the things we take for granted, such as the ease of doing dishes at home.

2014 06 17 – A geological report and map created by Imperial Oil Limited back in 1975 describing the geology of an area near Tory Hill. Work is being carried out on this area as a future mineral-collecting locality.

2014 06 18 – A Ramariopsis Kunzei, better known as a white coral fungus, is an edible fungus that can be found across North America as well as, Europe, Asia and Australia. Although they are edible, they are apparently flavourless.

2014 06 19 – A garter snake in the woods near Tory Hill, Ontario. They can be found in every province except for Newfoundland.

2014 06 20 – Two young skunks wander around the White Lake Cemetery in McNab Township.  Thiols, organic compounds containing an –SH group, are the compounds responsible the horrible smell produced by their spray.

2014 06 21 – Markham Raiders #30 (Jahmal Brown) maneuvers around Limestone District Grenadiers #23 (Damon Fair) during a regular season Junior game at Loyalist Collegiate Vocational Institute. The Grenadiers defeated the Markham Raiders 44 to 8.

2014 06 22 – Sheesham Crow, a member of the folk singing group Sheesham and Lotus introduces the crowd to the Arts Fest event at Newlands Pavillion, Richardson Beach. Fun, laughter and dance filled the pavilion from 2-4 p.m. as various participants partook in different styles of dance.

2014 06 09 – This is a specimen collected on Sunday containing many nice feldspar crystals from the Bear Lake property near Tory Hill, Ontario. The property was originally prospected in the early 1950’s for uranium. (A permit is required to collect.)

2014 06 10 – A nice set of marinated steaks cooked on a frying pan, along with potatoes and coleslaw made for an excellent dinner.

2014 06 11 – Workers from Fleming College guide the roof on top of the new sustainable youth enterprise centre at Riverside Park in Bancroft. This is part of the Sustainable Building Design and Construction course based out of Haliburton.

2014 06 12 – Chris Scime hikes through a marshy wood section of forest north of Bear Lake Diggings near Tory Hill, Ontario while out doing some geology assessment work. A night of rain and humid conditions left the forest damp, we were both soaked by the end of our day.

2014 06 13 – Another exciting day hiking through thick brush, marshlands and a wide array of forest types while doing assessment work near Tory Hill, Ontario. Here Chris and I came to a relative clear area along the edge of a lake. The breeze kept down the mosquitoes for a brief moment.

2014 06 14 – Carly from the Ontario Highlands Tourism Organization, along with two girls as part of a family tour dig through the soil at Bear Lake Diggings looking for crystals. Carly writes, photographs and takes video for a blog called Ohletsgo.ca, as she embarks on adventures throughout Ontario’s Highlands.

2014 06 15 – A beautiful view of Lake Kamaniskeg from the lookout off highway 62. This beautiful vista was the subject of many Group of Seven paintings such as the “Kamaniskeg Lake Summer,” by A. J. Casson.

2014 06 02 – Members of North Hastings Youth In Action (NHYIA) rake leaves, needles and cones outside of the Bancroft and District Chamber of Commerce. NHYIA has been working in the area since 2004.

2014 06 03 – Turbulent clouds roll through the skies above Bancroft, as a cold front moves across Ontario stretching from the Toronto up to Timmins.

2014 06 04 – A painted turtle wonders across Mumford Road near Wilberforce, Ontario. Females are larger then the male with an average size of 10-25 cm.

2014 06 05 – A mosquito stays still on a deck at the Bancroft Tent and Trailer Camp in Bancroft, Ontario. This year there are so many mosquitoes and black flies it is incredible.

2014 06 06 – A Blanding’s Turtle (Emydoidea blandingil) walks across Madill Road near Tory Hill, Ontario. It is classified as threatened and is protected under Ontario’s Endangered Species Act. This is only the second one I have seen.

2014 06 07 – Members of various geology clubs explore a marble quarry near Madoc, Ontario lead by Peter LeBaron, District Geologist for Southern Ontario. The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines has an office in Tweed, with a geological library.

2014 06 08 – A common snapping turtle (chelydra serpentina) rests along highway 62 north of Madoc. In 2006 it became the state reptile for New York.

A lot has happened over the past 365 days. Photographed a wedding, rock climbing, various foods and a winter we never thought would end. Thank you to everyone who has followed this past year’s worth of photos. Hopefully the next year will be filled with as much excitement and interest.

2014 05 26 – A person makes their way up a granite cliff face at the Eagle’s Nest in Bancroft. This is a well-known site with a few climbs ranging from 5.8 to 5.12 and ice climbing in the winter.

2014 05 27 – Two gentleman talk in the parking lot at Canadian Tire in Bancroft as the Bancroft Cruisers gather for their biweekly get-together. They are a non-profit classic and antique auto group.

2014 05 28 – Members of the Bancroft community react to a statement by one of the candidates during an All Candidates Meeting at the Bridge Community Church in Birds Creek. The Provincial election happens on June 12.

2014 05 29 – Jeff, a construction worker makes his way down a rock face in a Ford F-150 after installing a tourism sign at the Eagle’s Nest in Bancroft. A series of signs that you can get your photo taken with are being installed at various tourism locations across Ontario’s Highlands.

2014 05 30 – Sitting in the dinning tent at the Bancroft Tent and Trailer Camp enjoying dinner. Last year I was on site #9, this year I am on site #7 camping for the summer.

2014 05 31 – The Tweed & Hickory store in downtown Kingston at the corner of Princess Street and Wellington Street is closing. The chain is a privately owned Canadian retail chain that established in 1955 selling a wide array of items.

2014 06 01 – Members of the Kingston Symphony play Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 Eroica during this year’s Beat Beethoven Run. The challenge is to finish the 8km route before the symphony finishes playing the musical piece, which is 50 minutes long.
